Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the task by reporting several data points from the pie charts, such as the UK and German export percentages for India and China in 2000 and 2011. However, the data cited contains numerous inaccuracies when compared against the visual data, and key overall trends are missed or misreported. For instance, the text claims Australia and other countries export EU, which confuses the categories, and misinterprets the charts significantly. Furthermore, the selection of data is somewhat disjointed and fails to provide a clear, comprehensive summary of the main features and comparisons. Consequently, the response achieves Band 5.0 as it addresses the task only partially with limited and sometimes confusing ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response makes use of some basic discourse markers like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' to structure the paragraphs, which provides a rudimentary framework. However, the overall progression is difficult to follow due to confusing referencing and abrupt jumps between countries and years (e.g., mixing UK and German data within the same sentences). Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak and often mechanical. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or misused, leading to a lack of clear logical flow. This places the response firmly at Band 5.0 for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, heavily relying on words like 'export', 'highest', 'year', and 'china'. There are frequent lexical inaccuracies, such as using 'export EU' instead of 'exports from the EU' or 'exporting to', and confusing basic terms. Spelling and word choice errors are noticeable throughout the text, including proper nouns not capitalised ('india', 'china', 'australia') and incorrect derivations ('increasing there export to china is up tp 48%'). While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a general topic, the errors and limited range restrict the score to Band 4.5, rounded to Band 5.0 for descriptor alignment.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentences, but grammatical accuracy is very low. There are frequent errors in basic sentence structure, tense usage, and prepositions. Examples include 'The pie chart illustrate that...' (subject-verb agreement), 'Germany export a good EU to china' (incorrect verb form and collocation), and 'Germany increasing there export' (incorrect tense and possessive adjective). Punctuation is also problematic with missing capitals and run-on phrasing. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader in parsing the meaning, the response fits the Band 4.5 to 5.0 range.
