Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The candidate covers the main features of the pie charts by identifying the top exporters to India and China in both years and highlighting changes over time. Key data points are generally accurate, such as noting the UK's 29% share for India in 2000 and Germany's dominance with 38% and 48% for China. However, the overview lacks precision and is slightly confused in places (e.g., claiming Belgium supplied the maximum number of items in 2000 and 2011, whereas the UK was higher for India in 2000). Furthermore, some comparisons lack sufficient development or clarity regarding overall proportions. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, the execution has minor inaccuracies and over-generalizations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to group information by destination and year. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, logical progression is sometimes hindered by mechanical transitions, punctuation errors (e.g., spaces before commas), and abrupt shifts between sentences. Reference words are occasionally unclear or repetitive, and cohesive devices are somewhat basic or faulty (such as 'Whereas , all other countries number changed over perios of the time'). Overall arrangement is discernible, but control over cohesion is inconsistent.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to report percentages and rankings ('export', 'supplier', 'position', 'decline'). However, there are notable word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'number rose to 25%' instead of 'share rose to 25%' and 'nut The United Kingdom' (typographical error for 'but'). Less common lexical items are attempted but occasionally misused or awkwardly phrased, leading to some strain for the reader. Spelling errors ('perios') also occur.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'The pie charts illustrates' instead of 'illustrate', 'Germany export' instead of 'exported', and 'The United Kingdom shows' (past tense context). Punctuation is also problematic, with spaces frequently placed before commas and periods. These errors occur throughout the text and occasionally impede smooth reading, placing the response firmly at Band 5.0.
