Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student covers all parts of the task by reporting key features and making relevant comparisons across the four charts. An overview is successfully presented in the second paragraph, highlighting dominant exporters such as the UK and Germany. However, there are several data inaccuracies and misreadings throughout the text. For instance, the student states that Sweden, Spain and Finland showed similarity at 25% in 2000 for India, whereas the chart shows figures of 2%, 2%, and 2% respectively (with Belgium at 25%). Furthermore, 'Australia' is repeatedly written instead of 'Austria'. Despite these factual errors, the response satisfies the core requirements of presenting main features and comparisons, which aligns with Band 5.5 to 6.0 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is structured into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for the years 2000 and 2011. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Moreover', and 'In addition to this' are employed to guide the reader through the data. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty, and transitions can feel mechanical. For example, the sentence 'Furthermore, in exported to China, Germany plays crucial role...' suffers from poor grammatical linkage and awkward phrasing. Paragraphing is used appropriately overall, but internal logical progression is occasionally disrupted by confusing sentence structures and factual misinterpretations of the data, supporting a Band 5.5 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts to incorporate topic-specific terms like 'exports', 'imported', 'percentages', and 'accounting for'. However, there are notable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'maximum products', 'stock was imported', and repeated confusion between country names like 'Australia' instead of 'Austria'. The student also misspells 'Wherease' and 'coutries', and uses phrases like 'other showed little intrest' which are anthropomorphic and inappropriate for academic data reporting. The lexical range is limited and contains errors that occasionally cause confusion for the reader, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses and introductory participial phrases. However, the writing contains frequent grammatical errors, incorrect prepositions, and punctuation issues. Examples include 'illustrate the information about', 'in a two year time period, 200 and 2011' (missing a zero in the year), 'in exported to China', and missing articles or pluralization errors like 'higher exports of china'. Many sentences lack proper subject-verb agreement or have broken syntax, which places this response firmly at Band 5.0.
