Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by attempting to summarise the pie charts showing EU exports to India and China in 2000 and 2011. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, the student claims that in 2011, Germany was giving maximum goods to India 'about a quarter' (which was actually Belgium in 2000 and Germany in 2011 at 25%, but the student confuses some figures) and misreads several trends and proportions. The overview is weak, consisting of vague statements rather than clear, high-level summaries of main trends. Key comparisons between the two countries are attempted, but the execution suffers from inaccurate data interpretation and lack of precise feature selection, placing it within Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow and progression are frequently disrupted by confusing referencing and abrupt transitions (e.g., 'To initiate with it can be witnessed...'). Cohesive devices are used mechanically or awkwardly, such as repetitive use of 'furthermore' and 'on the other hand' in incorrect contexts. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of information lacks clear structure, mixing data from different charts without a coherent rationale. Overall arrangement shows some organisation, but the lack of clear overall progression keeps this criterion at Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, heavily relying on informal or imprecise phrases such as 'things', 'giving', and 'transport maximum goods'. There are noticeable lexical inadequacies and word choice errors, such as 'Finland was at least in exporting' instead of 'least active', and 'percentile' used instead of 'percentage'. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with frequent awkward collocations that cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response displays a limited range of sentence structures, with frequent grammatical errors. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures often result in faulty grammar, awkward phrasing, or missing prepositions (e.g., 'exportation of things to two various nations', 'UK exported maximum things India'). There are frequent errors in verb tense, article usage, and word order that impede smooth reading and cause strain for the reader. Control over grammar is weak, aligning with a Band 5 score.
