Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the task by reporting several data points from the charts, such as the UK's export figures to India and Germany's exports to China. However, the response lacks a clear, cohesive overview of the main trends. Furthermore, the selection of data is somewhat haphazard and incomplete, focusing heavily on individual countries rather than capturing the broader comparative picture between the two destination countries and the two years. Several values are reported, but the lack of a proper introductory overview and the limited depth of reporting place this response in Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is divided into paragraphs, which provides a basic structural framework. However, the logical progression is weak. The transition between sentences and paragraphs often feels abrupt, and cohesive devices are minimal or misused, such as 'coming to goods of china'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear. While there is an attempt to structure the answer into an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs, the overall organizational flow is disjointed, consistent with Band 5.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'illustartes', 'diffrent', 'countires', and 'exoprts'. There is very limited use of less common vocabulary, and precision is lacking when describing statistical data (e.g., 'arise' instead of 'increase' or 'rise'). The lexical range is minimally adequate to convey basic information, but noticeable errors in word choice and spelling place this firmly at a Band 4.5, which rounds to 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student uses a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent grammatical inaccuracies. Errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('Netherlands have', 'Belgium have steadily'), incorrect prepositions ('exports of goods of india'), and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation and capitalization are also poorly controlled (e.g., lowercase 'china', 'india', 'uk'). Because complex structures are rarely attempted and basic sentences contain frequent errors, a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0, is appropriate.
