Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the pie charts comparing EU exports to India and China in 2000 and 2011. However, the data interpretation contains several inaccuracies and confusion regarding directionality, often treating import and export interchangeably (e.g., stating India exports mostly from Germany). Furthermore, some key figures are misreported, such as claiming Germany's share for China was increased by 48% rather than to 48%. While the candidate attempts an overview and selects some prominent data points like Germany and the UK, the lack of precision and confusing phrasing limit the task fulfillment.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is organized into multiple paragraphs, attempting to separate ideas regarding India and China. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by confusing transitions and mechanical referencing. Paragraph boundaries are not well-utilised, and the progression of ideas lacks clear structure. Transitional markers like 'Moreover' and 'On the other hand' are used, but their mechanical application and the overall disjointed flow make the text difficult to follow at times.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms and frequent repetition of words like 'exports', 'countries', and specific nation names. There are notable word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as using 'export mostly from' instead of 'import from' or 'destined for'. Spelling mistakes (e.g., 'illustraste', 'wicH', 'approxmately', 'chine', 'farnce') further detract from the overall lexical score, though basic meaning is generally communicated despite the vocabulary limitations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text contains a limited range of grammatical structures, with frequent errors in basic sentence construction, capitalization, and punctuation. Sentences often run on or lack proper syntactic connections, as seen in 'While in China Only Germany contributes the largest.' There are persistent errors in verb forms and prepositions, such as 'was increased by 48%' instead of 'rose to 48%'. These errors frequently cause strain for the reader and reflect a weak command of complex structures.
