Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the data from the pie charts regarding EU exports to India and China in 2000 and 2011. While some key figures are mentioned, such as the UK's 29% share to India in 2000 and Germany's 38% and 48% to China in 2000 and 2011 respectively, the report suffers from significant inaccuracies and omissions. For instance, the statement that Belgium contributes an 'equal proportion' to India is confusing and inaccurate, and the description of data is frequently muddled with awkward phrasing like 'in terms of India recieved by 15%'. Furthermore, the overview is weak, failing to clearly capture the overarching trends, such as Germany's dominance in China and the shifting shares for India. Overall, the task is addressed only partially, warranting a band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is structured into four paragraphs, attempting an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a concluding sentence. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor cohesion and referencing. Transition words and phrases are used awkwardly, such as 'As, for India recieved the more amount...', and the connection between ideas within sentences is often obscure. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal flow of ideas lacks clarity. Referencing devices (such as 'the highest supported conturies') are imprecise, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparisons smoothly. This level of organisation and cohesion aligns with band 5.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'proportions', 'highest', 'amount', and 'goods exported'. There are numerous word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, including spelling and lexical slips such as 'countires', 'Netrelands', 'recieved', and 'conturies'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, but these attempts are marred by inaccuracy and unnatural phrasing (e.g., 'helped with huge amount', 'has support less'). The lexical range is minimally adequate for the task, but frequent noticeable errors restrict the score to a 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors that impede communication, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The pie charts illustrates'), incorrect prepositions ('exported to India' vs 'sent from Germany'), and awkward clause structures ('while China obtained only 9% products, Germany helped with huge amount...'). Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also mishandled, notably with a stray orphaned letter 'I' at the end of the third body paragraph. Because error-free sentences are rare and grammatical mistakes cause difficulty for the reader, this performance fits band 5.0.
