Overall, Germany and the United Kingdom were the main exporters to India in 2000, while Germany became the largest exporter to both India and China in 2011. The share of exports from Germany to both countries increased, whereas the United Kingdom's share generally decreased.

In 2000, the United Kingdom was the biggest exporter to India, accounting for 29% of exports. Belgium was second at 25%, followed by Germany at 15%. France and Italy made up 8% and 7%, respectively. The remaining countries had smaller shares, with Austria at only 1%.
