Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly mid-sentence at 131 words without completing the analysis of China. While the writer provides a basic overview and attempts to report some data points for India, the under-length nature severely limits task completion. Furthermore, there are significant data inaccuracies, such as stating that the UK's 29% share in India in 2000 was 'almost double from the exports in 2011' (whereas it dropped to 13%) and confusing Belgium's share with Germany's in the second body paragraph. These omissions and errors restrict the score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay attempts a logical structure with a clear introduction and separate body paragraphs for India and China. However, the response is incomplete, cutting off entirely after starting the paragraph for China. Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes misused, such as 'however, austria acountable for...' which lacks proper clause connection. Paragraphing is initiated but disrupted by the sudden end of the text. Progression is hindered by the incomplete nature of the response and minor organisational awkwardness.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, featuring frequent misspellings and word-form errors (e.g., 'illustrates' used with plural subject 'charts', 'brought' instead of 'bought', 'westren', 'acountable', 'remaing', and capitalisation errors like 'india', 'china', 'germany'). The writer attempts some less common terms like 'proportion' and 'percentage', but control is weak, and word choices are occasionally unnatural or inaccurate, impacting precision and readability.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control is inconsistent. There are multiple grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The pie charts illustrates', 'Begium shares'), missing prepositions, and incomplete sentences. Punctuation is also faulty, with missing commas after introductory phrases and lower-case letters at the beginning of proper nouns and sentences. Errors occasionally cause strain for the reader.
