Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to cover the task by discussing EU exports to India and China in 2000 and 2011, providing an overview and mentioning some main features like the UK and Germany. However, the task achievement is heavily compromised by severe data inaccuracies and misreadings of the charts. For instance, the student states that the UK constituted '25% of the total... closely followed by Austria... a substantial 1%', and later claims Germany's figure was 'a modest 38%' in the primary sector. These figures are confused, conflating different countries and years. The overview is partially unclear and contains sweeping, inaccurate generalizations. Furthermore, the phrasing is often disjointed, leaving key parts of the data unanalysed or incorrectly reported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression and coherence are severely disrupted by abrupt shifts in topic and broken sentences. Phrases like 'Further more, while the market share for Belgium underwent for a noticeable expansion the opposite trend was observed in Germany.' and 'I terms of primary sector United Kingdom emerged as most dominated feature' demonstrate poor control of cohesive devices and mechanical referencing. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph structure lacks logical flow. The sentence fragments and abrupt jumps between India and China data make it difficult for the reader to follow a clear line of argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and frequently inappropriate. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'conspicuous', 'expansion', and 'outstripping', but these are often misused in context or accompanied by awkward collocations, such as 'steady drops to less than the half' and 'most dominated feature constitution'. There are also lexical inaccuracies and word-choice errors, such as 'I terms' instead of 'In terms', and 'through out the, Further more'. Spelling and word formation errors, while not completely obstructing basic comprehension, occur frequently and restrict the score to the lower bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the response, including missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and faulty verb forms (e.g., 'underwent for a noticeable expansion', 'undergone', 'it steady drops'). Punctuation is also problematic, with fragmented sentences starting with lower-case letters or ending abruptly (e.g., 'This was closely followed by Austria. Which was accounted for a substantial 1%'). Error-free sentences are rare, and many grammatical slips cause strain for the reader.
