Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of EU exports to India and China in 2000 and 2011, making relevant comparisons. The overview captures the dominant positions of the UK and Germany accurately. Key data points are cited correctly, such as the UK's drop in India from 29% to 13% and Germany's rise in China from 38% to 48%. However, there is a minor mathematical inaccuracy in the final paragraph regarding the 'other' category for India, which changed from 5% to 9% (representing a 4 percentage point increase, not a double percentage point increase). Despite this minor flaw, the response is well-structured and fulfils the requirements of Task 1 effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response exhibits a clear overall logical arrangement with a standard four-paragraph structure comprising an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs dedicated to the respective countries. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'By contrast' and 'however', ensuring smooth transitions between sentences and ideas. Paragraphing is handled appropriately, separating India and China data clearly. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally feel slightly mechanical, and the lack of a proper closing summary or integration in the overview keeps the text at a Band 6 level for this criterion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully employing terms related to data trends such as 'significantly reduced', 'considerably rose', and 'gradually decreased'. Attempts at less common vocabulary are generally successful, though there are several noticeable spelling and capitalization errors throughout the text, including 'india' and 'china' (uncapitalized), 'countires' (misspelled), and 'Geramny' (misspelled). These lexical and mechanical errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the score from reaching the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing comparative structures and dependent clauses effectively (e.g., 'Exports from United Kingdom to India significantly reduced from 29% in 2000 to 13% in 2011'). There are some grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the United Kingdom'), incorrect prepositions ('in china' instead of 'to China'), and minor subject-verb inconsistencies ('where Belgium gradualluy decreased'). Punctuation and capitalization errors also appear frequently (e.g., starting sentences with lowercase letters in places). Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication.
