Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying key export destinations such as the UK and Germany for India and China across the two years. However, there are several inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, the student states that Finland was the least country to export in 2011 to India at 2%, whereas Austria was also 2%, and several others like Sweden were 3% while missing some more notable comparisons. The overview is rather weak, missing a broader summary of the shifts. Ideas are presented, but data selection and processing lack precision, keeping the response at a Band 5.0 level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is divided into logical paragraphs with a basic attempt at an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, cohesive devices are extremely limited and repetitive (e.g., 'In addition', 'According to given piechart'). Paragraphing is somewhat haphazard, and referencing is often unclear (e.g., 'EU exports goods from china is Germany has reached the greater percentage'). There is no clear progression of ideas across the text. This aligns well with the Band 5 descriptor for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent awkward phrasing such as 'proportion of sell overseas', 'marked at hightest proportion', and 'around 10% hike'. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors (e.g., 'least country to export' instead of 'smallest share'). Spelling errors like 'hightest' and capitalization issues ('china') also occur. The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, fitting the Band 5 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts some complex structures, but these are frequently faulty and run-on sentences are common, such as in the third paragraph where multiple clauses are joined incorrectly with commas. Punctuation is weak, and grammatical errors regarding subject-verb agreement and prepositions are frequent (e.g., 'EU exports goods to India United Kingdom marked', 'in year 2000 EU exports... UK is the largest country'). These errors cause some difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar score at Band 5.0.
