Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, presenting some information about the charts but missing key comparisons and data points. While you attempt to provide an overview, stating that Germany was the highest exporter overall, the body paragraphs struggle to clearly communicate the data. For instance, the descriptions of exports to India and China in 2000 and 2011 contain limited and under-developed ideas, and some figures are conflated or incomplete. To move to a higher band, you need to select and report the most salient features more accurately, ensuring a clear comparison between both countries and years is fully articulated.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation in the response, and you make an attempt at paragraphing, but overall there is no clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate or repetitive, relying heavily on basic connectors such as 'However' and 'Also'. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, and sentences are linked mechanically rather than logically. To improve coherence, you should ensure that your ideas flow smoothly from one sentence to the next by using a wider variety of cohesive markers and structuring your paragraphs around clear thematic groupings, such as contrasting the two destination countries or comparing the two specific years.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that occasionally impede communication. You successfully use basic terms related to the topic, such as 'proportion', 'exports', and 'exporter', but attempts at less common vocabulary are minimal. There are also awkward phrasings, such as 'exports to India percentage' and 'all over the countries', along with punctuation and spacing issues around commas. To achieve a higher band, you need to incorporate a wider range of precise vocabulary and collocations to describe statistical changes and proportions naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Your grammar displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty, such as 'the United Kingdom and Belgium exports to India percentage was 29% and 25%'. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'The four pie chart illustrates', missing prepositions, and awkward clause structures. These errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, you should practise constructing more complex sentences accurately and pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules like singular and plural noun agreement.
