Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially, as the candidate presents a limited selection of data and fails to provide a clear overview of the main trends across the charts. While the writing attempts to compare the years 2000 and 2011, the details are sparse, and some specific data points are inaccurate or poorly supported, such as the statement regarding imports from Germany and Belgium to India. Furthermore, the confusion over the year in the phrase 'in 20011' shows a lack of precise data reporting. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to select and report more comprehensive key features, ensure all comparisons are mathematically accurate based on the charts, and formulate a clear overall summary highlighting the most significant shifts between the two years.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation in the response, but it lacks a clear overall progression. The essay is structured into basic descriptive chunks—such as dividing the description into 'the first uper half' and 'the next bottom half part'—which feel mechanical rather than naturally analytical. Additionally, cohesive devices are somewhat inadequate and repetitive, heavily relying on phrases like 'and then', 'While in 2011', and 'In the next bottom half part'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in vague transitions between sentences. To improve cohesion, the writer should employ a wider variety of cohesive links to connect ideas smoothly, organise paragraphs around logical themes rather than physical chart locations, and ensure a seamless flow of information throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, featuring noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word form that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Instances of inaccurate lexis include spelling errors like 'countires', 'uper', 'Kindom', 'increas', and 'incrreased', alongside awkward phrasing such as 'Imports from Germany has been increased adding some increas'. The range of vocabulary is basic and repetitive, mostly restricted to simple terms like 'exports', 'goods', 'compared', and 'charts'. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire to include less common vocabulary related to data trends, ensure accurate spelling and word formation, and use precise collocations to convey statistical changes naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of structures, with frequent errors in grammar that can cause difficulty for the reader. The writer relies heavily on simple sentences and makes frequent mistakes with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, as demonstrated in 'Imports from Germany has been increased' and 'The exports of goods has been incrreased'. There are also frequent errors in article usage and prepositions within grammatical patterns, such as 'from different countires of Europe Union in the era of 2000' and 'as compare t0 2000'. To progress to a higher band, the student needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex sentence forms with good control over tense selection, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions.
