Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response is severely underlength, containing only 75 words compared to the minimum requirement of 150 words. Because of this extreme brevity, the task is addressed only minimally. The student manages to introduce the topic and mention a few features regarding the year 2000 data for India, but the overall summary is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence. There is no overview provided of the entire dataset, and the trends for China are entirely missing. To reach higher bands, the writer must ensure they write at least 150 words, cover all major trends and data points across all charts, and provide a clear overview summarizing the main overall changes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response demonstrates some basic organization with an introductory sentence and an attempt to sequence information ("Overall it can be seen", "In 2001"), but because the text cuts off abruptly, progression is heavily disrupted. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final section is incomplete. Cohesive devices are minimal, and referencing is partially affected by the sudden end of the text. To improve, the writer needs to develop complete paragraphs that logically transition from one main feature to the next, using a wider range of cohesive phrases to guide the reader smoothly through the data.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student displays a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some topic-specific terms such as "illustrate", "percentage", and "exports". However, there are notable lexical errors and spelling mistakes, including "Europeon" instead of "European", "Indian" instead of "India", and "perecent" instead of "percent". The misuse of prepositional phrases like "exports by Europeon Union to the countries of Indian and China" also highlights weaknesses in word choice and collocation. To improve, the writer should expand their academic vocabulary, practice accurate spelling, and ensure words are used in the correct grammatical form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or basic complex frames. There are noticeable errors in grammar and mechanics, such as the incorrect date "In 2001" (when the chart clearly states 2000), awkward phrasing like "exports to these both countries", and missing articles. Because the text is so short, it is difficult to fully assess syntactic range, but the existing sentences contain frequent slips that detract from accuracy. To progress, the writer needs to practice forming complex sentences reliably and check their work carefully for basic agreement, tense, and numerical accuracy.
