Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the main features of the task, covering both India and China across the two years, though some details are incomplete or imprecise. An overview is attempted, stating that Germany was the leading exporter to China while India received exports from a variety of countries including the UK and Belgium. However, some comparisons are under-developed or vague, such as the incomplete final sentence about Belgium. While key data points like Germany's 38% and 48% are reported, the selection of information lacks full balance and clarity, placing the response appropriately at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure with paragraphing dividing the introduction, China, and India. However, there is a lack of clear progression, and logical flow is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and run-on sentences. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or mechanically used, such as 'In china, in year of 2000' and 'By contrast'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the relationships between data points smoothly. This reflects the characteristics of this level where organisation is evident but progression is lacking.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate to communicate basic information about the charts, but the range is limited. There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'most exporter' instead of 'largest exporter', 'india recept' instead of 'India received', and 'oxports' and 'rozed'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success, and spelling mistakes like 'defferent', 'oxports', and 'wich iz' occur regularly, causing some difficulty for the reader and capping the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('the eu exports was'), missing articles ('in year of 2000', 'from france'), incorrect preposition use, and poor punctuation. Complex structures often contain faults or break down entirely, such as in the final sentence 'Belgium by contrast rosed highly in Germany 25%'. These frequent errors create difficulty for the reader.
