Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the two destinations and years, and correctly note Germany’s dominance in exports to China, including its rise to 48% in 2011. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: Belgium was not the highest share of exports to India in both years, and the UK—not Belgium—had the largest share in 2000 at 29%. The response also omits several important comparisons, such as the UK’s fall in India’s figures and Germany’s increase in China’s. “Australia” is not shown in the charts; the lowest figure you mean is Austria’s 1% for India in 2000. At 145 words, the response is five words below the required minimum, with nine prompt words excluded from the count. Develop a clearer overview and select accurate key comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for 2000 and 2011. The phrases “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help signal the shift between years. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and the repeated “Moreover” does not always show a clear relationship between the facts. The overview combines India and China in a confusing way, while “Belgium was high percentage 25% and also United kingdom was same” makes the comparison difficult to follow. Group the information by destination or by the most significant changes, and use linking phrases that accurately express contrast or addition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “pie charts,” “exports,” “percentage,” and “highest,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, such as “was high percentage,” “lowest,” and “biggest change.” Some word choices also affect accuracy: “Australia” is a different country from Austria, which appears in the chart. Aim for more precise language for describing shares and changes, and vary repeated terms. For example, describe a country as having the “largest share” and a figure as “accounting for” a proportion. Check country names carefully against the visual.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response uses mostly simple sentence patterns, with a few attempts to connect ideas using “Moreover” and “as compared to.” Errors in sentence structure and agreement are frequent enough to make some statements awkward or unclear. For example, “Belgium and Germany was highest percentage” has a subject–verb agreement problem and an incomplete construction, while “Belgium was high percentage 25%” lacks the grammatical structure needed to express the figure. Articles and capitalization are also inconsistent in phrases such as “to the India” and “In the year 2000.” Practise accurate comparison patterns, such as “Belgium accounted for 25%,” and check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
