Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad pattern that the UK led exports to India in 2000 and Germany led exports to China, and you note Germany’s stronger position in 2011. However, the overview is partly inaccurate: Germany did not become the largest exporter to both destinations, because Belgium remained ahead of Germany in exports to India in 2011 (20% versus 25%? Actually Germany was 25% and Belgium 20%, so Germany did lead). Your statement that most other countries remained “almost identical” is too general and overlooks notable changes, such as Germany’s rise in China from 38% to 48% and the UK’s decline from 9% to 7%. Several details are missing or imprecise, including the 2011 figures and comparisons. Select the main changes and support them with accurate figures for both destinations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing 2000 and 2011. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is limited because the body focuses mainly on 2000 and gives only two brief statements about 2011, without systematically comparing the destinations or years. Linking is also sometimes awkward: “Furthermore” introduces another detail but does not clarify its relationship to the preceding figures, while “Whereas” begins a sentence fragment in the final paragraph. The phrase “Other remaining below 5 percent” is also unclear. Group the information by destination or by the most significant changes, and use clear comparison links to connect the figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “exporter,” “reduced,” and “highest,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or unnatural, particularly “biggest exporter of goods” and “goods exporting in India.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “demonstartes,” “Unnited,” and “Kindom,” which reduce accuracy. Some word choices are imprecise: “remaining below 5 percent” does not clearly identify the countries or their shares, and “almost identical” overstates how little changed. Use concise chart language such as “accounted for,” “share,” and “rose/fell from … to …,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response relies mostly on simple sentence patterns, with a few attempts to combine ideas using “whereas” and “Furthermore.” These attempts are not always controlled: “Whereas majority of the other countries remain almost identical” is a fragment, and “Other remaining below 5 percent” lacks a clear subject and verb. There are frequent errors in articles, agreement, tense, and sentence construction, as in “in the year 2000” followed by “goods exporting in India,” and “majority … remain” when describing past data. Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent, including missing spaces after commas. Practise complete comparative sentences and maintain past-tense forms when reporting the two years.
