Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the chart topic and give a relevant overview that German exports increased for both destinations. You also select some useful 2000 figures, including the UK’s 29% share for India and Germany’s 38% for China. However, the response is incomplete: it stops mid-sentence at “whereas se” and gives no meaningful account of the 2011 figures or a balanced comparison of changes. Some wording also makes the data unclear, such as “for both India and China respectively.” The response contains 115 words, below the required 150, which further limits the coverage. To improve, complete the summary and report the main shifts, especially Germany’s rise and the UK’s decline.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph beginning “According to the pie charts.” This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression is limited because the body focuses on selected 2000 figures and then breaks off, so the comparison is not developed across both years. Linking is also awkward in places: “following that” does not clearly show the relationship between the figures, and “which has the highest contribution” has an unclear reference. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the overview and key comparisons, and connect figures with clear contrasts such as “by comparison” or “whereas.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “contribution,” “increased,” and “decline,” and the main topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing shares. “Goods from United Kingdom” and “Germany has exported 15% goods” do not express the percentage share clearly; “share of exports” or “accounted for 15%” would be more precise. There are also spelling and word-form problems, including “wich,” “france,” and “contribute.” Aim for accurate collocations and consistent formal wording, rather than repeating “goods” and “contribution.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, and the overview sentence communicates a clear general trend. However, errors in sentence structure and agreement are frequent enough to make parts difficult to follow. For example, “The given pie charts illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the goods from United Kingdom was” has agreement and article problems. The clause “which has the highest contribution, and for China it was only 9%” is not joined clearly, and the final sentence is incomplete. Practise building complete comparisons with a clear subject and verb, such as “The UK accounted for 29% of exports to India, compared with 9% to China.”
