Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 2.5

The response identifies the chart topic and attempts an overview, but it reports only one comparison and does not summarise the main patterns across both destinations and years. The claim that Spain and the Netherlands “remained the same” is not accurate: Spain rose from 2% to 3% for both India and China, while the Netherlands changed from 4% to 5% for India and from 4% to 5% for China. Important features are omitted, especially Germany’s dominant and growing share of exports to China and the contrasting changes in the UK’s share for India. The response is also substantially below the required 150 words, leaving the task minimally addressed. Include a clear overview and several accurate, selected comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence introduces the charts, followed by a separate overview beginning with “Overall.” This gives the reader a simple starting structure. However, the response ends after that overview, so there is no developed sequence of details or comparisons, and the relationship between the two sentences is limited. The phrase “Different countries have different percentages” is too general to advance the description. Build a clear progression by giving an overview first, then grouping details by destination or by the most notable changes. Use linking expressions to show contrasts and trends, rather than relying on a single transition.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “pie charts,” “exports,” “percentage,” and “Overall,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural for describing chart data. “Different countries have different percentages for the export” does not clearly explain what the figures represent, while “remained the same to the export” is an unsuitable collocation. The spelling and capitalisation in “Illustrate” and “Netherland” also need attention. Use precise terms such as “share,” “accounted for,” “rose,” and “fell” to report the data clearly and avoid repeating general wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response contains a few short sentence forms, and the basic meaning of the opening is understandable. However, grammatical control is uneven even in these brief sentences. “The pie charts Illustrate that EU exports…” lacks a complete clause after “illustrate that”; a more accurate structure would be “The pie charts illustrate the shares of EU exports…” The overview also has problems with articles and sentence construction: “the percentage of Spain and Netherland remained the same to the export” does not form a clear grammatical comparison. Capitalisation after the opening word is inconsistent, and the response shows little range beyond simple clauses. Practise complete sentences with accurate subjects and verbs, and use comparative structures such as “Spain’s share rose from…to…”.
