Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify some important leaders, including the UK’s 29% share of exports to India in 2000 and Germany’s 38% share of exports to China that year. However, the response only partially summarises the charts: it gives little usable coverage of China in 2011 and ends with an incomplete statement about India. Several figures are inaccurate or assigned to the wrong country: Belgium’s India share in 2000 was 25%, not 29%, and Austria, not Australia, had the 1% share. The overview does not clearly summarise the main changes across both destinations and years. To strengthen the response, give a concise overview of the contrasting patterns—Germany’s dominance in China and the UK’s decline in India—then select accurate comparisons from all four charts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is an attempt to organise the response by time and destination, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” signal relationships between points. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the first paragraph already discusses India in both years, while the next repeats 2000 India figures before shifting to China. The final paragraph is unfinished, so the comparison is left without a clear conclusion. Some links are also awkward or unclear, such as “followed the export Belgium” and “the same contribution.” Use a clearer structure: an overview first, followed by one paragraph comparing India and another comparing China, with each paragraph moving from 2000 to 2011.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant terms, including “exports,” “represented,” “share,” and “rose sharply,” showing an attempt to describe proportions and change. However, vocabulary is often repetitive or inaccurately formed, which makes several statements hard to interpret. Examples include “export … 15percentage,” “29 ratio,” and “same contributation”; “Australia” also appears where the chart names Austria. Spelling errors such as “severial,” “eurpean,” and “significantally” further reduce precision. Build a reliable set of chart-description collocations, such as “accounted for,” “made up,” “share of exports,” “increased to,” and “fell to,” and check country names and spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple statements and longer comparisons, and some basic clauses communicate a figure, for example, “Germany stood at 25%.” However, sentence structures are frequently incomplete or incorrectly formed, as in “the United Kingdom stood at 29%, followed the export Belgium represented 25 ratio.” There are also problems with articles, agreement, and verb patterns, including “The pie charts illustrates” and “Germany also export.” Tense and sentence boundaries are inconsistent, and the final sentence is unfinished. Practise complete subject–verb–object sentences and use consistent past-tense reporting for the chart: for example, “Germany’s share rose from 15% to 25%.” Add punctuation to separate comparisons clearly.
