Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the chart topic and include a few relevant figures, such as the UK’s 29% share and Belgium’s 25% share of exports to India in 2000, as well as the UK’s fall to 13% in 2011. However, the response addresses only a small part of the task: it gives almost no account of China, does not compare the two years systematically, and ends before reporting the remaining India figures. The overview is also inaccurate: Germany was the largest exporter to China in both years, but not to India in 2000, when the UK led; Austria was not the smallest in every case. The response is substantially below the required 150 words, leaving the main features and comparisons undeveloped. Include a concise overview and cover both destinations and years.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overview and then a paragraph beginning “To India”. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, the progression is incomplete because the account stops partway through the India comparison and never moves to China. The overview and details are not clearly separated, and the sequence of figures is difficult to follow, with repeated commas interrupting the sentence. Use distinct paragraphs for the overview and the detailed comparisons, and group information by destination or year. Linking phrases such as “By contrast” and “In 2011” would help make the comparisons explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “pie charts”, “export”, “highest” and “value”, so the basic subject can be understood. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “export goods” where “exports” is more natural, “export city” for a country, and “falled” for “fell”. “Major eport” is also unclear, and spelling and capitalisation are inconsistent. These issues make parts of the description awkward and reduce precision. Build a small set of accurate terms for describing shares and changes, such as “accounted for”, “share”, “rose” and “declined”, and check spelling and country names before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both an introductory sentence and a longer sentence comparing figures, and the basic meaning is usually recoverable. However, grammatical control is uneven. The opening has an unclear structure (“The given pie charts illustrates…”), and the overview uses sentence fragments and inconsistent capitalisation. In “by year 2000” and “in tear 2011”, the time expressions are not formed correctly; the final clause also lacks a complete, well-punctuated comparison. Most sentences rely on simple patterns, with little accurate variety. Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, for example, “In 2000, the UK accounted for 29% of exports to India, but its share fell to 13% in 2011.”
