Student answer (Band 5.5)

The pie charts compare the data of the years 2000 and 2011 of exports of goods from various Europeon Union countries to India and China. Overall, United Kingdom showed the highest rate of export in year 2000 in India, whereas, Germany had the highest export rate in the year 2011 of the same country. The lowest export rate to India was from Austria in 2000 and from Austria and Finland in 2011. In China, Germany showed the highest export rate in the both years, however, lowest rate was from Austria and Spain in 2000, on the other hand, Austria and Finland in the year 2011.

In the year 2000, 29% of the goods were exported to India by United Kingdom, after that, Belgium 25%, Germany 15%, France 8%, Italy 7%, Netherlands 4%, the three countries Spain, Sweden and Finland 2%, Austria the lowest 1%, while other countries 5%. 2011 was the year when the highest export to India was done by Germany 25%, Belgium 20%, United Kingdom 13%, Italy and ther countries 9% each, Netherands 5%, Sweden and Spain 3% each, whereas, Austria and Finland 2% each.

In both the years, Germany had the highest export rate to China in the both years 2000 and 2011 38% and 48% respectively. The both years show somehow similar pattern. In 2000, the export rate of different countries are Italy 9%, Netherands 4%, Spain 2%, Sweden 8%, United Kingdom 9%, other 4%, Austria 2%, Belgium 5%, Finland 6% and France 13%. In the year 2011, the export rate of countries are Italy 8%, Netherlands 5%, Spain, Sweden 3%, UK 7%, others 8%, Austria and Finland 2%, France 10% and Belgium 5%.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover both destinations and both years, and your overview identifies the main leaders: the UK for India in 2000 and Germany for India in 2011 and China in both years. Most figures are accurately reported. However, the overview focuses heavily on highest and lowest shares and does not clearly summarise the broader changes, such as Germany’s substantial rise in China and India, alongside the UK’s decline in both markets. Some details are also unclear or inaccurate: in 2011 India, “Italy and ther countries 9% each” should distinguish Italy from “Other,” and for China in 2011 Spain is 3% while Sweden is also 3%, rather than the phrasing suggesting only one shared figure. A clearer summary of the key shifts would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introductory overview followed by separate paragraphs for India and China. This makes the information easy to locate, and time markers such as “In the year 2000” help signal comparisons. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. The overview repeatedly lists the lowest shares, while “on the other hand” is used where a simple comparison would be more natural. Some lists are difficult to follow, particularly the China figures, which are presented in a long sequence without grouping increases, decreases, or stable shares. The phrase “The both years show somehow similar pattern” also does not explain what is similar. Organise details around the most important changes and use clearer links between comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “export rate,” “highest,” “lowest,” and “respectively,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. However, the range is somewhat repetitive, especially the repeated use of “export rate” and “showed.” Several expressions are imprecise or unnatural for describing proportions, such as “29% of the goods were exported … by United Kingdom” and “the highest export … was done by Germany.” There are also spelling errors, including “Europeon,” “ther,” and “Netherands,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise terms such as “share of exports” and “accounted for,” and proofread country names carefully. This would make the description more fluent and appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, and the main comparisons are usually understandable. However, some sentence patterns contain recurring errors. For example, “in the both years” and “The both years show” use an incorrect article, while “the export rate of different countries are” has subject–verb disagreement. Articles and prepositions are also missing in phrases such as “by United Kingdom” and “to India in year 2000.” Long sentences joined with “whereas” or “on the other hand” sometimes have awkward punctuation and make the relationships harder to follow. Use shorter, controlled comparison sentences, check singular/plural agreement, and review article use with country names and years. More accurate control of these patterns would strengthen the response.
