Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart topic and give a few relevant figures, including the UK’s 29% share of exports to India in 2000 and Germany’s leading position in China. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: it gives little information about 2011 and does not compare the two destinations systematically. The statement that Germany had the “first export” to India is unclear and does not accurately describe its 2011 share of 25%. The overview also repeats conflicting claims about the lowest shares, and the response ends at “In 2011” without completing the account. At 121 words, it is 29 words below the required minimum; develop the missing comparisons and report the main changes across both years.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an introduction, an overview and a paragraph of figures for India in 2000. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression is weak because the overview repeats the point about the lowest shares and includes unclear statements, such as “Germany had the first export of goods to lndia.” The body then covers only one destination and one year before ending with the unfinished heading-like phrase “In 2011.” The linking words “Overall,” “whereas” and “On the other hand” are present, but they do not create a coherent comparison. Use separate, complete paragraphs to compare India and China across both years, and ensure each paragraph develops one clear point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “proportion” and “exports,” and the reader can identify several country names and figures. However, the range is limited and repetitive, with “highest proportion” and “lowest percentages” doing much of the descriptive work. Several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “first export,” “highest proportion export” and “Italy at presented.” Spelling errors including “repreasented,” “preseanted” and “Austrua” also reduce clarity. Aim for precise chart language such as “accounted for,” “share” and “rose/fell from … to …,” while checking country names and spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes some correctly formed simple sentences, for example, “The pie chart illustrates the exports from various EU countries to India and China in 2000 and 2011.” It also attempts longer structures using “whereas” and “On the other hand.” However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence construction and punctuation sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. “Germany had the first export of goods to lndia” is not a clear grammatical expression, while “Italy at presented approximately 7%” has a faulty structure. The overview also contains an incomplete construction (“However, lowest countries is the Spain…”), and the final “In 2011” is not a complete sentence. Practise complete comparisons with accurate subject–verb patterns and finish every sentence.
