Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify the two destinations and give a brief overall comparison, noting Germany’s leading position in China and naming major suppliers to India. However, the overview contains inaccuracies: Belgium was not the highest supplier to India in both years, and Austria was not the only lowest supplier in China. The response gives no figures or meaningful account of how shares changed between 2000 and 2011, so it reports only a small part of the chart’s main information. It is also substantially below the required 150 words. To improve, include a clear overview of the contrasting patterns, then support it with accurate figures and comparisons for both destinations and years.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic, understandable order: an introductory sentence is followed by an overview, and “In contrast” signals a comparison between India and China. This gives the reader a simple framework. However, the answer ends after these two sentences, with no developed paragraphs or progression through the chart data. The overview also combines several claims in a way that makes the comparisons difficult to follow, particularly “Belgium and Germany was the highest goods…” A fuller response should separate the overview from the detailed comparisons and group information logically, for example by destination or by the most notable changes. Use linking phrases to clarify relationships, rather than relying on a single contrast marker.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “pie chart,” “exports,” “nations,” and “supplyer,” showing an attempt to describe the subject and compare countries. However, the range is very limited, and several word choices or forms are inaccurate: “goods suply country” and “highest supplyer nation” are not natural ways to describe export shares. There are also spelling errors such as “diffrent” and “supplyer,” which reduce accuracy. Build a more precise vocabulary for describing proportions and rankings, such as “accounted for,” “share,” “largest exporter,” and “smallest proportion.” Check spelling and use collocations that fit the chart context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response uses simple sentence forms and attempts an overview with a contrast clause, so the main topic is generally recognisable. However, grammatical control is inconsistent. In “Belgium and Germany was,” the plural subject requires “were”; “the least on was Austria” has an unclear and faulty structure; and “Germany is accounted for” uses an incorrect verb construction and tense. Since the charts show two past years, use past forms consistently, such as “Germany accounted for…” or “Germany had the largest share.” The response also shows little variety in sentence structures. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and comparative sentence patterns before attempting longer descriptions.
