Student answer (Band 6.5)

Having mixed schools where both girls and boys learn together is a common practise seen in most parts of the world. Whereas some individuals argue that male and female should have seperate schools, I believe that placing learners in a mixed school setting gives them the chance to develop positive educational mindset and interpersonal skills needed in life.

First and foremost, placing students of both genders in the same setup enables them to develop desirable mindset and the spirit of competition. This is important as they are placed in the same environment where they can showcase their prowess in different subjects. For instance, it is widely believed that boys are good in mathematics and science subjects while girls are pressumed to do better in languages, a mixed class provides them with an open space to compete fair and square. Furthermore, being in the same setting gives both learners chance to strive in doing better and improve in areas of weaknesses.

Placing learners in one learning institution regardless of their gender enables them to develop interpersonal skills. Co-existance creates an opportunity where learners are able to relate well with those of opposite gender. For example, they are able to see and note how each other behaves, responsibilities and characters improves their how they treate each other. Additionally, having the ability to understand emotional and developmental aspects of the opposite gender prepares them for future relationships. Moreover, this is important as they will be able to accept each other as they are.

In conclusion, I believe that mixed schools should be given priority and developed as they give learners a good and favourable ground to develop better skills that are essential for day to day life situations. In addition, it creates a perfect platform for healthy educational competition that immensly improves learners academic performance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you favour mixed schools because they support educational development and interpersonal skills, and the conclusion reinforces this view. Both reasons are relevant and supported with examples, such as students competing across subjects and learning to relate to the opposite gender. This addresses the question well. The response also begins to show the fuller development expected at a stronger level, but some claims remain broad or insufficiently explained. For example, the claim that mixed classes improve performance through competition would be more convincing with a specific illustration or a clearer explanation of how this benefit occurs. You could also acknowledge why some people prefer single-sex education before explaining why you disagree.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from academic benefits to interpersonal development is logical, and signposts such as “First and foremost,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. This is a coherent and well-organised response. To make the links feel more flexible and precise, avoid relying mainly on formulaic transitions and clarify connections between ideas within sentences. For instance, the sentence beginning “For example, they are able to see and note…” combines observation, behaviour, and improved treatment without making the relationship between them clear. More precise referencing and a clearer explanation of that link would strengthen the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including phrases such as “interpersonal skills,” “spirit of competition,” and “emotional and developmental aspects.” These choices help communicate your main points, and attempts at more formal wording are evident. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision: “develop positive educational mindset,” “compete fair and square,” and “a favourable ground” do not sound natural in this context. Spelling errors such as “practise,” “seperate,” “pressumed,” and “immensly” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural academic collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your ideas sound more fluent without requiring unnecessarily complicated vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses introduced by “as” and “where,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, but they rarely prevent the reader from following your meaning. For example, “a mixed class provides” is joined to the preceding clause with a comma, creating a run-on sentence, while “responsibilities and characters improves” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “improves their how they treate each other,” the sentence structure is also faulty. Review clause boundaries, agreement, and sentence construction, and proofread punctuation. Greater control of these areas would make your complex sentences clearer and more consistently accurate.
