Student answer (Band 5.5)

An increasing concern for many people around the world is that female and male students are educated together in schools. There are those who say that if girls and boys study separately in different schools, like girls' schools or boys schools, however others believe that the mixed schools has create benifitial affect in both gender. I strongly disagree with the belief that students of different sexes have to study in different designated schools.

Generally speaking, there is a wide range of reasons why people believe that females should study in a separate school from male students. Perhaps the main reasons why people are in favour of the separate school study of different sex is because the mental condition is different for both gender. For example, girls are different emotionally than boys.

Despite these arguments, many people feel that students should be judged only as students, not by their gender. A further point in favour of studying together is that today's world is competitive in the job market for both genders. For instance, in the business sector, women also perform very well and compete with men. I agree with this view that schools should not be different between genders.

In conclusion, this is a topic which raises strong passions on both sides of the arguments. That says what should students prepare for; the job market doesn't have a separate part for them so why we educate our children separately. If the study all together, they can learn about each others. Because we are not enimy, we are like friend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you strongly disagree that students should be educated separately, and the conclusion returns to the idea that children should prepare for a shared job market. You also acknowledge the opposing view by mentioning emotional differences between girls and boys, so the response addresses both sides of the question. However, the supporting ideas are limited and not fully explained. The claim that girls are “different emotionally than boys” is not developed with evidence or a clear link to why separate schooling would help. Your argument for mixed schools—that women compete successfully in business—would be stronger with a specific example and an explanation of how co-education prepares students for this. Develop each main reason more fully and keep your position consistently explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting the case for separate schools, a paragraph supporting mixed education, and a conclusion. This gives the reader a basic route through your argument, and phrases such as “Despite these arguments” help signal a change in direction. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and some linking expressions do not connect ideas smoothly. The final paragraph shifts abruptly from the job market to learning about one another, while “That says what should students prepare for” is difficult to follow. Referencing is also unclear in places, such as “this view,” because the preceding sentence presents more than one idea. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example directly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “co-educational,” “separate,” “competitive,” and “job market,” which helps communicate the main subject and your position. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts of the response difficult to understand. For example, “the mixed schools has create benifitial affect” does not express the intended idea clearly, and “separate school study of different sex” is unnatural. There are also spelling errors such as “benifitial” and “enimy.” Aim to use accurate, natural phrases rather than attempting complex wording: for instance, describe the benefits of mixed schools directly, and use precise terms such as “emotional development” when discussing the opposing argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional idea in “If the study all together, they can learn about each others.” However, complex structures are often not controlled, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction sometimes make the meaning hard to follow. For example, “the mixed schools has create” has an incorrect verb form and agreement, while “why we educate our children separately” needs a correctly formed question structure within the sentence. The final paragraph also contains a fragment beginning “Because we are not…” and an incomplete conditional. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea at a time, then combine them using correctly formed clauses. Check subject–verb agreement and verb forms during revision.
