Student answer (Band 7.5)
While many countries have adopted co-education in their education system, some people believe that teaching students separately based on their gender differences has its benefits. I completely agree with this statement.
Firstly, there are certainly many advantages when it comes to co-education. Boys and girls can learn how to get on with the opposite gender from an early age, which is an invaluable interpersonal skill in today's world. For instance, generally speaking, females and males have different characteristics, and students can familiarize themselves with a variety of personalities in mixed schools, enabling them to adapt to the authentic situations later on in the workplace.
In terms of single-sex schools, we need to admit that they do not have features possessed by mixed schools. That, though, does not necessarily indicate that educating students separately does not have its benefits. In Iceland, for example, some educational institutions have already adopted this system, separating students and tailoring curricula based on gender. As a result, boys and girls have more opportunities to showcase their talents freely without being influenced by stereotypes that boys should be good at science and girls should be interested in art. In addition, they do not face competition from the opposite gender anymore, enabling them to grow up in a relatively relaxing environment compared to the past.
In conclusion, despite the fact that co-education has many benefits and single-sex schools do not have those, it must be admitted that younger generations can gain many advantages from such education, such as avoiding stereotypes and a more relaxing environment. Thus, I strongly agree with the opinion that students benefit from being educated separately.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. You address both sides of the argument, acknowledging the benefits of co-education before presenting your support for single-sex schooling. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the reference to Iceland. However, the development of your arguments could be more nuanced. For instance, while you mention the 'relaxing environment' of single-sex schools, explaining the psychological impact of this in more detail would strengthen your position. Overall, you have addressed all parts of the prompt effectively, providing a clear and consistent argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'For instance', 'In terms of', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader through your argument. The progression of ideas is smooth, and each paragraph has a clear central topic. However, some transitions between sentences could be more sophisticated to improve the flow. For example, the connection between the second and third paragraphs could be tightened to better contrast the two educational models. Overall, your use of paragraphing and linking words is effective and contributes to a coherent piece of writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'invaluable interpersonal skill', 'tailoring curricula', and 'showcase their talents' are used appropriately. There is an awareness of style, and you avoid repetitive language. While you do not use a wide range of highly sophisticated or uncommon lexical items, the vocabulary you have chosen is accurate and fits the context well. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations or idiomatic expressions related to education and social development.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'While many countries have adopted co-education...' and '...enabling them to adapt to the authentic situations...'. Your control over grammar is generally good, and your sentences are mostly error-free, which ensures that your meaning is always clear. There are occasional minor slips, but these do not impede communication. To improve, you could experiment with a wider variety of complex structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice constructions, to demonstrate greater flexibility and control over your writing.
