Student answer (Band 7.0)

Today, in many areas of the world, girls and boys are educated together in one class. Some individuals believe that they benefit from being educated separately in single-sex schools. I partially agree with this view because teaching together will help them to bring maturity and help them to learn how to cooperate with the opposite gender, but at the same time it will hesitate teacher in educating both genders in some areas.

One of the main advantages of teaching both genders together is that it will bring maturity to students. In the 19th century, male adults treated the women in the wrong way, but in today's world, both have equal rights. For instance, it will help boys to educate themselves on how to behave with girls, inturn, it will lead to a better generation. Additionally, nowadays, women are becoming independent and working in all sectors, it will help men know how to deal with women. For example, there is an increase in the number of women in the IT sector, so it will help men to understand the nature of women and how to cooperate with them, which leads to creating better communication skills.

On the other hand, if they are taught together, tutors might not teach with an open mind. For example, if a woman teacher is assigned a biology subject in a common class, then the teacher will feel shy or cannot teach openly the reproductive system in front of male students. In this situation the single-sex schools prefer to be the best. Furthermore, teaching them separately leads to employment. In recent years, a large number of teachers are unemployed, the creation of separate schools gives them employment, which reduces the unemployment rates.

In conclusion, I believe that schools should continue to study them together, but some of them might also run single-sex schools to create employment. A combined approach will lead to wide options for the parents.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt and maintained a clear position throughout. Your arguments regarding social maturity and the practical challenges of co-education are relevant. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat uneven. For instance, the argument that single-sex schools reduce unemployment is a bit tangential and lacks a strong logical connection to the educational benefits of the system. To reach a higher band, ensure that all supporting points directly relate to the core question of whether students benefit from the separation. Your conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, though it could be more nuanced.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

Your essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Additionally,' 'On the other hand,' and 'For instance' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between historical context and modern IT sectors feels abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a single, well-developed central theme that connects smoothly to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'co-educational,' 'reproductive system,' and 'employment rates.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'hesitate teacher' instead of 'cause teachers to hesitate' and 'study them together' instead of 'educate them together.' To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your meaning, but it lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms, articles, and sentence construction (e.g., 'male adults treated the women in the wrong way' and 'if a woman teacher is assigned a biology subject'). These errors do not usually impede communication, but they are noticeable. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures will help you move toward a higher band.
