Student answer (Band 6.5)
In many communities co-education has become increasingly common. However, some people believe that it's more beneficial for students if girls and boys have separate schools or single-sex schools. I completely agree with this view. Although studying in co-education helps in developing communication skills with the opposite gender, it certainly has many social and cultural disadvantages.
Studying in single-sex schools provides more freedom to students as they can enjoy their learning experience with the classmates from same gender. They do not need to tailor their behaviour according to social and cultural norms and they do not need to worry about their privacy from students who belong to a different gender. This becomes of crucial importance especially in higher classes when children go through pubertal changes which affect them physically as well as mentally. For instance, a girl already anxious about puberty related body changes may feel more comfortable if she goes to a single-sex school.
Moreover, this also reduces the chances of any kind of distraction caused by attraction with opposite sex. In fact students remain more focus on their academics and other extracurricular activities instead of investing their time and attention to early age love affairs. For example, a boy in a relationship with his classmate is less likely to focus on academics due to constant distraction in school. Similarly, parents do not need to worry about any the common social issues related to teaan agers like early pregnancy.
Hence, studying in co-educational environment compromises privacy and freedom of a particular gender while increasing the risk of loosing required attention on academics due to natural reasons such as attraction to opposite sex. Therefore, parents should prefer single-sex over mixed schools.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response clearly addresses the prompt and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding privacy, pubertal changes, and academic focus are relevant and logically extended. The essay is well-structured, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct reason for supporting single-sex education. While the ideas are well-developed, the response could be improved by acknowledging the counter-argument more deeply or providing more nuanced examples to reach a higher band. However, the task is fully addressed, and the position is clear and supported by relevant reasoning, meeting the requirements for a strong performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates a clear logical progression. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct ideas, and the introduction and conclusion frame the argument well. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For instance', and 'Hence' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though there are minor issues with flow between sentences. Overall, the information is arranged coherently, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow, which is characteristic of a solid performance in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning with reasonable precision. The student uses topic-specific terms like 'co-educational', 'pubertal changes', and 'extracurricular activities' appropriately. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'loosing' (should be 'losing') and 'focus' (should be 'focused'). The range is adequate for the task, but it lacks the more sophisticated, idiomatic, or less common lexical items that would be required for a higher band score. The errors do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a good attempt at complex sentences, such as 'Although studying in co-education helps in developing communication skills...'. However, there are several grammatical errors, including 'with the classmates from same gender' (missing article), 'any the common social issues' (extra word), and 'teaan agers' (spelling). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the reader's understanding. To improve, the student should focus on article usage and subject-verb agreement to ensure more error-free sentences.
