Student answer (Band 6.5)
Over the past couple decades, sharp discussion has risen regarding the free-mixing seen in schools in the latest generations, and some strongly believe that students would benefit greatly from seperating the kids by gender in educational settings. They believe that this mixing could lead to great problems among the students, such as intensified bullying and great disruption. This essay agrees that separating the students will have palpable advantages for everyone's well-being, lists examples of why such a change would be monumental.
Studies have shown that girls and boys distinctly differ in terms of their nature and their overall behaviour. Girls often exhibit more controlled behaviours with rare violence, showing fewer cases of bullying and argumentative issues with their peers, whereas the opposite is noted for boys. There is no doubt that bullying is still a prominent issue regardless of gender. However, it is more popular amongst a male group due to their tendency to lash out, and they won't waste a second to utilise their god-given strong built to display dominance over who they perceive to be weaker classmates. Boys will often resort to hitting and inflicting physical injuries, whereas girls are more inclined to remain calm and resolve issues through thorough discussion. Personally, I have attended a female-only school my entire life and have rarely witnessed severe bullying in my vicinity, as it doesn't go beyond bickering and banter. However, my friends, whom have had experiences in mixed schools, noted that there were always consistent, threatening fights amongst the boys.
This disruptive behaviour will not only pose severe health risks in an environment that is supposed to be safe and sound, but it will also interfere with the quality of the student's education. Teachers will have a harder time managing the boy's behaviour over the girl's, which directly affects everyone's ability to grasp the knowledge displayed and explained in class. Those who are eager to learn will be waiting for an entire half-hour as the teacher scolds and disciplines one of their peers. It is important to note that hormonal changes are likely the cause of these disruptive behavioural issues, but they should not cost other students their costly education and time. If they were to be seperated, teachers would have an easier time managing and teaching each gender. Disruption will still be an issue within the boy's sector, but at least the girls get to learn and receive proper, uninterrupted education, and the boys will get to receive proper attention without compromising everyone's experience.
Though it is crucial that everyone learns how to communicate with all the people around them regardless of gender, I believe that such skills can be taught at a later time, such as in universities where mixing is normal, and everyone has mostly matured. However, at an early educational level, it is crucial that all students get to study normally, without one person's actions affecting everyone else's experience. Hence, I strongly believe that separation in earlier years of education will have a great positive impact on the students.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, maintaining a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding behavioral differences and the impact on learning quality are well-developed and supported by personal experience. The essay is balanced, acknowledging the counter-argument about social skills before refuting it. However, the analysis occasionally relies on generalizations about gender behavior, which slightly limits the depth of the argument. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the question, meeting the requirements for a Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the discussion of behavior and the impact on education is smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'however', 'hence', and 'not only... but also' are used effectively to link sentences. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. While the flow is generally good, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is minor repetition of ideas, which prevents it from reaching the highest band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'palpable advantages', 'monumental', and 'compromise everyone's experience' show an attempt to use less common items. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'free-mixing' (which is not standard) and 'strong built' (should be 'strong build'). Spelling errors like 'seperating' and 'seperated' also occur. Despite these, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the intended meaning clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over complex sentences, such as 'Though it is crucial that everyone learns... I believe that such skills can be taught...'. However, there are frequent minor errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('my friends, whom have had' should be 'who have had') and punctuation slips. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication or cause difficulty for the reader. A wider variety of error-free complex structures would be needed for a higher band.
