Student answer (Band 5.5)

Co-eductaion is the most discussed topic in many parts of the world. Most of the schools do not follow co-education in many parts of the world. Some people argue that girls and boys benefit from being educated separately in single-sex schools. I strongly condemn this statement and do not stand by this.

Studying in single-sex schools specially designed for either boys or girls does'nt benefit childern in any way. The circumstances chirldern grow in the school makes them awkward to communicate with the opposite sex. Most of the children either can not interact or hold real conversations as they become underconfident while talking to opposite sex. Co-educational schools helps chirldern build real connections with opposite sex. Children will get to know about each others feelings and peronalities.

Studies shows that most of the students that study in the single-sex schools are either depressed or does'nt know how to deal with life. Children that educate themselves in co-educational schools are happy with real friends. Because they know how boys/girls behave. When children graduate from single-sex schools, they get overwhelmed when they go into the society. Moreover, single-sex schools do not teach thier students how to face real life. Mostly, their agenda is to teach children only the lessons from the text books so that they do not get distracted.

In conclusion, I strongly argue with people who thinks that girls and boys benefit from being educated separately. Chidren should grow together with out any barriers. In this way, they can face life without being overwhelmed.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and relies on generalizations. For instance, the claim that students in single-sex schools are 'either depressed or does'nt know how to deal with life' is an unsupported assertion that lacks nuance or evidence. While the position is consistent, the arguments could be more sophisticated and better supported with specific examples or logical reasoning to reach a higher band. The response covers the main points but remains somewhat superficial in its analysis of the benefits of co-education versus single-sex schooling.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover' and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved to create a more natural, cohesive argument. The referencing is mostly clear, although some sentences are slightly repetitive in their structure. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the reader can easily follow the writer's line of reasoning despite the lack of sophisticated linking words.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'co-eductaion', 'childern', 'chirldern', 'peronalities', and 'thier', which occur frequently. The word choice is generally simple, and the essay relies on repetitive phrasing like 'opposite sex' and 'real life'. To improve, the student should aim for more varied vocabulary and pay closer attention to spelling accuracy. While the meaning is always clear, the lack of more sophisticated or academic vocabulary limits the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentences, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Studies shows', 'schools helps', 'people who thinks'), incorrect verb forms ('does'nt know', 'does'nt get distracted'), and punctuation errors (missing apostrophes in 'does'nt'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. The student demonstrates an attempt at complex structures, but the lack of accuracy in basic grammar prevents a higher score. More focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and pluralization is necessary.
