Student answer (Band 6.0)
Throughout the world today, co-education is very popular with boys and girls attending the same school. However, some believe that education would be more beneficial for school-age children if it is completed at same-sex schools.
In my opinion, I believe the benefits of co-education surpass the benefits of same-sex education.
Firstly, education is undoubtedly vital for humans and environmental factors including who we share a school with must be considered as an important. To me, shared education between boys and girls helps both genders build their capacity and understanding of others who are not the same as them which should be viewed positively.
Not only does it enhance social skills with the opposite sex, it can also promote positive relationships between them too. In the instance of a young man who perhaps has no female family members or friends outside of school, it is more likely his ability to form positive relationships with females is reduced which can lead to relationship issues as well as other more serious issues such as domestic violence. It is my view that learning at a young age that people are different to us is beneficial and it helps broaden our mindsets to others who may seem different to us. This will help children as they grow older realise that not everyone is the same which is very useful given today's modern society which is becoming more and more diverse.
Aforementioned, I believe the school environment is essential and I believe this is more crucial than who we share the classroom and corridors with. Thus, in conclusion, I hold the view that a child should be able to attain a suffice education regardless if it is a same-sex or co-educational school.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. The main body paragraphs provide relevant arguments regarding social skills and diversity. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the link between single-sex schooling and domestic violence is a significant claim that requires more nuanced explanation or evidence to be fully convincing. Additionally, the conclusion contradicts your earlier stance by suggesting that the type of school is less important than the environment, which slightly undermines the clarity of your position. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explored and that your conclusion consistently reflects your initial argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Firstly', 'Not only', and 'Thus', to guide the reader. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes mechanical. For example, the phrase 'Aforementioned' is used incorrectly as a sentence starter; it would be better to use 'As mentioned previously' or 'In light of the points mentioned'. Paragraphing is generally appropriate, but the final paragraph is quite brief and lacks a strong summary of the arguments presented. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'co-education', 'diverse', and 'capacity'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing. For example, 'attain a suffice education' should be 'attain a sufficient education', and 'environmental factors' is used in a context that is slightly unclear. You also rely on some repetitive structures. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. While your meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is not yet broad enough to consistently demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'who we share a school with must be considered as an important' (should be 'as important') and 'regardless if it is' (should be 'regardless of whether it is'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'In the instance of a young man who perhaps has no female family members'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions will help improve your accuracy.
