Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is a mixed opinion about the co-education of boys and girls. Some people are of the opinion that boys and girls should both be taught in the same schools while others opine on the contrary.

Considering the parts of the whole world the opinions vary based on the conventions, culture, availability of trained teachers, and religion.

Co-education exists in many parts of the world mostly in private schools where the parents are educated and there is a tendency of better upbringing of their children and providing them with the quality education. For example, a trained teacher could teach one class at a time, given the aforementioned topic if there are two separate schools a single teacher would not be able to teach them at the same time. In Muslim world and countries like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan etc. state-owned schools are mostly separate-sex schools. In Pakistan for instance there are co-educated schools too, where boys and girls are being educated together. Girls and boys both are different by nature and so are there needs which are out of the scope of this topic. I have studied myself in the government school for the whole 16 years of my educational journey. In my personal opinion if both the genders are taught in the same institute it develops mutual respect, understanding and co-existence between boys and girls preparing them for later stages of their adult lives.

In conclusion, and in my personal opinion I am in favor of the co-education since they could benefit off of the experience of their teachers and develop better understanding and mutual respect.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing co-education and expressing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention cultural and religious factors, these points are not fully explored or linked back to the core argument about the benefits of single-sex versus mixed schools. The example regarding a 'trained teacher' teaching one class is somewhat tangential and does not strongly support the argument for or against co-education. To improve, you should provide more substantial arguments regarding the psychological or academic impacts of both systems, rather than focusing on logistical aspects like teacher availability.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited, and some transitions feel abrupt, such as the jump from discussing private schools to the example of a teacher. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the 'aforementioned topic' and the teacher example is weak. Paragraphing is present, but the introduction and conclusion are quite brief. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that progresses the argument logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some repetitive phrasing, such as 'boys and girls' and 'educated'. There are also some minor collocation issues, such as 'benefit off of the experience' (should be 'benefit from') and 'co-educated schools' (usually 'co-educational schools'). While the meaning is always clear, the vocabulary remains at a fairly basic level. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'so are there needs' (should be 'their needs') and 'I have studied myself in the government school' (the 'myself' is redundant). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that slightly impede the flow. While the errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your point, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of pronouns to enhance the accuracy of your writing.
