Student answer (Band 5.5)

Educating boys and girls in co-educational schools or separate in the single-sex schools has become a pensive concern across the globe nowadays while some people think that different genders should be studying in different schools. I agree to a small extent due many reasons which will be highlighted in the forthcoming fragments with a logical conclusion.

To commence with, while educating two different genders have various pros like children from different genders learn to cooperate with each other and also develop a sense of respect for each other. To elaborate it, studying in same schools of two opposite gender will also help them to understand their biological behavior and differences about each other which will support them to live happily in their future. In addition, it will also develop their communication skills and their way of interacting for opposite gender. For example, the students studied in joint schools are more likely to communicate with opposite gender than studied in single-sex schools. As a result, gender discrimination can also be expelled from our society.

Nevertheless, people who argued to this notion have their own views and believes such as cultural allowances. To write more, in many cultures and religions it is believed that it is not good for teenagers of different sex to live or study together as they are not so mature to know about their good or bad and it is also not comfortable for some students to study with opposite genders which bring them against the statement of studying together. For example, introvert students may feel uncomfortable in class and have loss in theirs marks in exams.

I certainly believe that there is no such bad omen for educating boys and girls together and people must treat them equally and encouraging co-education schools.

To conclude, there are several pros such as children from different genders learn to cooperate with each other, develop a sense of respect for each other yet some points supporting opposite statement can also not be ignored at any cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a position, although the stance is slightly inconsistent. You state you agree 'to a small extent' but then argue strongly for co-education in the conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the development of communication skills and cultural concerns, but some points are under-developed. For example, the claim that single-sex schools lead to 'loss in theirs marks' is a generalization that lacks specific evidence or logical depth. To improve, ensure your position is clearly defined in the introduction and consistently supported throughout the body paragraphs with more nuanced reasoning rather than repeating the same points in the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Nevertheless', and 'To conclude'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'To write more' or 'bring them against the statement'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the progression of ideas within the paragraphs needs more refinement to ensure that each sentence builds logically upon the previous one without repetitive phrasing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'co-educational', 'discrimination', and 'introvert'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'pensive concern' (which does not fit the context), 'joint schools', and 'bad omen'. Additionally, there are minor errors in word form, such as 'believes' used as a noun instead of 'beliefs'. To reach a higher band, focus on using collocations more accurately and expanding your range of academic vocabulary to express complex ideas with greater precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the opposite gender'), subject-verb agreement ('people who argued'), and prepositions. Phrases like 'loss in theirs marks' and 'encouraging co-education schools' contain errors that, while not impeding communication, are noticeable. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically regarding pluralization, article usage, and ensuring that verb forms match the intended tense and subject.
