Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt, but the development of ideas is inconsistent and often unclear. While you attempt to discuss both sides, the arguments are frequently repetitive and lack logical depth. For instance, the claim that mixed schools are a 'symbol of a well-developed nation' is asserted but not effectively supported with logical reasoning. Furthermore, the conclusion is contradictory, as it mentions the advantages of mixed schools but then refers to 'positive effects' of the opposing view without clearly summarising your position. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on one clear, distinct argument supported by a concrete example or explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with' and 'However', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or mechanically. For example, the transition 'To proved' is grammatically incorrect and disrupts the flow. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow your line of reasoning. To improve, focus on using transition words more naturally and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother narrative flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise, which hinders the clarity of your arguments. You rely on basic phrasing and struggle with word choice, such as 'pensive concern' (which does not fit the context) and 'thinker more broodily'. There are also frequent errors in collocation, such as 'take education' instead of 'receive an education' or 'study'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary and focus on learning common collocations and academic phrases that are appropriate for formal writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'education become', 'both sex take'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack necessary components, such as 'As result, In the bigger companies group of staff are from both sex'. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions, before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
