Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's world, co-education is highly debated issue, people holding different opinions about it. In different parts of globe, girls and boys are educated in co-educational institutes. I completely disagree with the statement that girls and boys benefit from being educated separately in single- sex schools. I will discuss my opinion in this essay with suitable examples.

To commence with, co-education is essential for student's personal as well as their professional growth. It will help them to build a healthy connection among them and develop a better understanding of different sex. Moreover, co-education will help them to avoid a hesitation and build confidence to interact with each other. For example, a recent survey indicates that students from a co-educational environment are more confident as compared to single-sex schools. Hence, co-education is not only teaching schools subjects, but also encourages social interaction

On the other hand, single-sex schools can limit social skills and develop a sense of awkwardness. Students get fewer chances to interact with opposite sex, which can impact their normal friendships. It is further supported by the fact that it will impact their career as all offices are mix all genders. Furthermore, single-sex school education can also impact their opinion about opposite sex and can build a toxic or aggressive peer cultures. For instance, students in boy's or girl's school will keep outdated views or feel shy around each other. Therefore, co-education is better than single-sex education.

To conclude this essay, I firmly believe that co-education is beneficial in a number of ways than separate education.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding social development and professional preparation are relevant and logically extended. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief; for instance, the claim that single-sex schools lead to 'toxic or aggressive peer cultures' is an interesting point that could have been supported with more specific detail or a more nuanced explanation to reach a higher band. The introduction and conclusion are present, but the overall essay structure is quite concise. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a deeper exploration of the implications of the arguments presented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is a lack of variety in the cohesive devices employed. Additionally, some referencing is slightly imprecise, such as in the phrase 'a healthy connection among them', where the antecedent for 'them' is not immediately clear. Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinions clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'co-educational institutes' and 'outdated views'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'highly debated issue' (missing an article: 'a highly debated issue') and 'all offices are mix all genders' (should be 'mixed-gender' or 'comprise both genders'). The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include missing articles ('in different parts of globe'), subject-verb agreement issues ('co-education is essential for student's personal... growth' should be 'students''), and awkward phrasing ('avoid a hesitation'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors, such as the missing period at the end of the second paragraph. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on reducing these frequent minor errors and increasing the variety of complex grammatical structures used.
