Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, education system has become a widely debated issue and in many countries, both male and female students study together in mixed schools. It is often argued that it will be more beneficial, if they are educated in single sex schools. I completely agree with this viewpoint and this essay explains, concentration on studies and the competition among single sex as reasons behind my agreement, with relevant examples.

The primary justification for my position is that the younger people who are studying in single sex school, can keep their concentration on school curriculum and other educational activities, as they do not have possibilities to build up love affairs in the school premises. Accordingly, those children are able to acquire higher results in their examinations. For example, a famous lecturer has stated that he did not keep a love connection with any girl in his school age and it was a great assist to be successful in his career.

Another significant factor is that among single sex students, there is a crucial competition. As a result of this, each one may try to achieve better scores than his or her competitor. Furthermore, indirectly, this will be a great benefit which cannot gain from where study in mixed schools. For instance, I was being educated in single sex school and there was a considerable competition among all girls in my class. Consequently, 98% of students were selected to universities since they studied hard to beat others.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that both boys and girls can get more advantages when they are in single sex schools than doing their studies in mixed ones because of more chance to keep concentration on studies and the continuous competition among single sex.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas regarding concentration and competition are relevant, though they are somewhat under-developed and rely on anecdotal evidence rather than broader analysis. For instance, the example of the 'famous lecturer' is quite vague and does not strongly support the argument. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more sophisticated reasoning or broader societal examples. The response covers all parts of the task, but the development of ideas remains somewhat simplistic, which limits the depth of the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'The primary justification,' 'Another significant factor,' and 'Consequently,' which help the flow of the text. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between sentences could be smoother in places. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a band 6 or 7, but it lacks the sophisticated, unobtrusive cohesion found in higher bands.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'curriculum,' 'justification,' and 'educational activities.' However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'did not keep a love connection' and 'cannot gain from where study in mixed schools.' These errors occasionally impede the natural flow of the writing. To improve, focus on more precise collocations and academic phrasing. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'education system has become' (missing an article), 'single sex school' (should be plural or have an article), and 'where study in mixed schools' (incorrect clause structure). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with comma usage. The errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they are frequent enough to keep the score in the 6.0 range. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
