Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this contemporary world, education is provided in the same school to both the sexes. Some individuals criticize this idea and opine that there should be seperate schools for girls and boys ensuring their better academic performance. I disagree with given statement to a great extent.

Owing to the following reasons, I disagree with the notion. The most prominent one is patriarichal thinking. In other words, a section of society still persists which is against feminism and openly wants to snatch the independence and the right of education from females because they think if girls would join the same school as boys, they will be more prone to get enganged in unethical acts such as having a boyfriend and so on. Their patriarichal thinking allows them to make such weired opinions. Additionaly, as far as their academic performance is concerned, it really depends upon their handwork and attitude towards studies and opposite gender has nothing to do with it. Therefore, it can be said that having seperate education institutions does not ensure better grades and there is nothing wrong for both genders to study in same school.

Nevertheless, there is a sole arguments that favours the given notion and that is opposite sex attraction. It is a natural biological process and it may happen more frequently if both the genders are in contact more often. Consequently, the students may start giving attention to their emotions rather than their studies, further taking a toll on their scores. Thus, it can be said seperate girls and boys school can be helpful in this context.

In conclusion, according to the aforementioned points, having boys and girls in same school may give bad results, sometimes. but it does me

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, although the conclusion is incomplete, which impacts the overall development of the argument. The ideas presented, such as the influence of patriarchal thinking and the biological reality of attraction, are relevant. However, the argument regarding 'patriarchal thinking' is somewhat tangential to the core educational debate, and the discussion could be more balanced. The sudden ending in the final paragraph prevents a full summary of the argument, which limits the score for task completion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Owing to the following reasons', 'In other words', and 'Nevertheless' are used to link sentences and paragraphs. However, the referencing is occasionally mechanical, and the abrupt termination of the final sentence disrupts the flow of the conclusion. While the paragraphing is sufficient, the lack of a completed concluding thought affects the overall coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with attempts to use topic-specific language like 'contemporary world', 'academic performance', and 'biological process'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'seperate' (separate), 'patriarichal' (patriarchal), 'weired' (weird), and 'Additionaly' (Additionally). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to suggest a limitation in control. A wider range of precise academic vocabulary would be needed for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I disagree with given statement' (missing article), 'both the sexes' (unnatural collocation), and 'there is a sole arguments' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is generally functional, but the incomplete final sentence is a significant error in structure. Despite these issues, the meaning remains clear throughout most of the essay, and the errors do not consistently cause difficulty for the reader.
