Student answer (Band 6.5)

Girls and boys are educated together in same school across the world while some people think that boys and girls should get education separately in single sex schools claiming that they get benefit from it .I formally disagree with this view. From my perspective it is very unrealistic idea to enroll boys and girls in separate schools which will directly lead to limited social interaction between boys and girls and can cause communication difficulties in mixed gender environment later in life.

To begin with ,I believe that mixed schools prepare student for university and workplace where men and women work together. It helps them to communicate and cooperate with each others .They learn how to respect and understand people of different genders. For instance, Students can learn teamwork by completing project work with boys and girls .

In addition to this,I also think studying together can challenge traditional ideas about what boys and girls supposed to do .Students can see both genders are equally capable in subjects such as mathematics, science, physics ,arts, etc. For example a girl can become interested in engineering , while boy can confidently choose arts or literature .

To sum up, providing education to girls and boys separately is an unrealistic objective ,as student are not able to work or cooperate with other genders in future .Additionally, they are not able to get information about genders role in society .Hence I totally disagree with the idea of educating student separately in single sex school .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding social interaction and challenging gender stereotypes are relevant and logically developed. However, the essay is quite brief, hovering right at the minimum word count. While the ideas are clear, they could be further extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. For instance, the point about 'workplace' preparation is a strong starting argument, but it could be expanded by discussing how specific soft skills are fostered in mixed environments. The conclusion effectively restates the position, ensuring the response remains focused on the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition to this', and 'To sum up' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, though the connection between sentences could be smoother in the second paragraph. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall progression of ideas is easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a band 6.5 or 7.0 level of organization.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their opinions clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'co-educational', 'gender environment', and 'stereotypes' (implied). However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler phrasing. Some word choices are slightly imprecise, such as 'get benefit' instead of 'benefit from' or 'get information about' instead of 'gain insight into'. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to demonstrate greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('in same school', 'in single sex schools') and subject-verb agreement ('student are not able'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several instances of missing or misplaced spaces before commas. While the student attempts complex sentences, the control over these structures is not entirely consistent. The majority of the sentences are understandable, but the frequency of minor errors prevents a higher score in this criterion.
