Student answer (Band 7.0)

Although some people think that girls and boys benefit from being educated separately in single-sex schools, I completely disagree with this view because co-educational schools promote gender equality and understanding among learners.

The primary reason why I disagree with this statement is that mixed schools give learners equal access to education, which has a significant impact on their future. This is largely because both boys and girls learn in the same classroom and are taught by the same teachers. A pertinent example of this can be observed in modern developed nations, where structural investments in this specific domain have consistently translated into superior long-term outcomes. Consequently, it stands to reason that prioritizing this dimension serves as a vital catalyst for broader systemic advancement.

Another significant reason is that it promotes understanding among learners. While it is true that girls and boys benefit from being educated separately in single-sex schools, I would argue that mixed schools allow both sexes to interact through group discussions. This is particularly important because they exchange ideas among themselves, meaning that they will build mutual respect. A clear illustration of this phenomenon can be found across various modern educational and corporate frameworks, where structural shifts toward this particular model have routinely generated exceptional real-world benefits. Therefore, it becomes entirely evident that integrating this strategy remains a foundational requirement for achieving sustainable developmental goals.

To conclude, although educating learners in a single-sex school has merits, I firmly believe that educating them in a co-educational school is a better approach because it promotes equality and understanding among learners, which are significant factors in their future lives and work environments.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments are relevant, focusing on gender equality and social interaction. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive and relies on vague, academic-sounding filler phrases rather than concrete, specific examples. For instance, phrases like 'structural investments in this specific domain' and 'modern educational and corporate frameworks' are used to support points but lack the depth of real-world evidence. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, illustrative examples—such as mentioning how mixed-gender collaborative projects in universities prepare students for diverse workplaces—rather than relying on generalized, abstract statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used effectively to link ideas, such as 'The primary reason', 'Another significant reason', and 'Consequently'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by the repetitive nature of the supporting sentences, which makes the progression feel slightly mechanical. The use of referencing is generally clear, and the essay maintains a consistent focus on the prompt throughout, ensuring the reader can follow the argument without difficulty.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Words like 'pertinent', 'catalyst', 'systemic', and 'foundational' show an attempt to use less common lexical items. However, some of these choices feel slightly forced or 'over-academic' in a way that does not always fit the context naturally. There are no significant spelling or word-choice errors that impede communication, but the vocabulary lacks the natural, idiomatic flow expected at the highest levels. Focusing on more precise collocations rather than abstract academic jargon would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

The essay displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You use subordinating conjunctions like 'although', 'while', and 'because' effectively to create complex sentences. The grammar is generally accurate, with very few errors in tense or subject-verb agreement. Most sentences are error-free, and punctuation is handled correctly. While the range of structures is sufficient, you could further improve by incorporating a wider variety of grammatical forms, such as conditional sentences or passive voice constructions used more naturally, to demonstrate greater flexibility and control over your writing.
