Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the co-educational debate. However, the position is not clearly stated or maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are presented in a somewhat disjointed manner, and the development is limited. For example, the argument regarding 'religious barriers' is introduced but not fully explained or linked back to the overall stance. The essay lacks a clear introduction and a structured conclusion that synthesizes the arguments, which prevents it from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure you clearly state your opinion in the introduction and dedicate separate paragraphs to supporting each side of the argument with specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks logical progression and effective paragraphing. The sentences are often run-on or fragmented, making it difficult to follow the flow of ideas. There is a lack of cohesive devices; for instance, the transition between the benefits of co-education and the drawbacks is abrupt and lacks a clear logical marker. The use of referencing is also weak, with pronouns often lacking clear antecedents. To improve, focus on using transition words like 'furthermore', 'conversely', and 'consequently' to link ideas, and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'randomly schools system' instead of 'co-educational systems' and 'gain experiences of knowledge'. Some phrases are awkward, such as 'people came across from different region'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of precision and the reliance on basic vocabulary hinder the quality of the writing. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and synonyms to express your ideas more precisely, and pay closer attention to word forms and standard English phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'they thinks'), tense consistency, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on, lacking proper punctuation, which makes the text difficult to parse. For example, 'that's they give more confidence' is grammatically incorrect and unclear. The range of structures is limited, with few attempts at complex sentences that are error-free. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and using periods to separate distinct thoughts rather than relying on long, unpunctuated strings of text.
