Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding co-educational versus single-sex schools, but the position is inconsistent and difficult to follow. While the student mentions both sides, the arguments are underdeveloped and often lack clarity. The conclusion contradicts the earlier points, making the overall stance unclear. Many sentences are fragmented or lack logical development, which prevents a full exploration of the topic. To improve, the student should focus on clearly stating a position in the introduction and supporting each main point with a coherent, well-explained example rather than listing fragmented ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks a logical structure. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively separate distinct ideas. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as the repetitive use of 'on the one hand' and 'on the other hand' without a clear logical flow between sentences. Many sentences are disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of the argument. Referencing is frequently unclear, and the transition between ideas is often abrupt or confusing. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the coherence of the writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is limited and often used inaccurately, which frequently impedes communication. There are many instances of word-choice errors, such as 'oppurtinativey' and 'shaverning hands', which make the meaning unclear. The student struggles to use appropriate terminology related to education or social interaction. The range of vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and there is little evidence of an attempt to use less common items or precise collocations. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on learning standard academic vocabulary and ensuring that words are used in their correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors in sentence structure, punctuation, and verb tense. Many sentences are incomplete or run-on, such as 'while some argue that some distractions education together single-sex between their teenage students can interact communication people'. There is a lack of complex structures, and even simple sentences often contain errors in subject-verb agreement or word order. These persistent errors make the text difficult to read and understand. The student should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including subject-verb-object patterns, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
