Student answer (Band 4.5)

Today i would like to talk about the boys and girls co-education or mixed schools.

Some people think the co-education is best for boys and girls and some people think co-education is not good for boys and girls.

In some schools and universities in a big cities like Lahore and Islamabad and etc in this cities most of the schools and universities have the co-education system.

But now a day in this cities have very bad education system most of the boys goes to co university and school only for girls and fun not for study and the students who go co schools and universities they don’t concentrate on their study and goals.

How much case is open in front of everyone like boys and girl relationships. The bad habits boys and girls do smoking and bunks and goes hotels and restaurants and do wrong things and do waste of their parents money.

Some people says co-education is not wrong thing and some people say co-education is wrong thing. That’s why who say co-education is not best so they don’t take education more in co system. The parents who don’t like co education system so they stop their daughter study and the daughter broke their dreams.

But in my opinion Co-Education system is very wrong for students study and their future. The government finished the co education system if they don’t finished so they make some other universities which have separate study system because of his action all girls take more education easily and fulfill their dreams.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position that co-education is detrimental to students and advocating for single-sex education. However, the development of ideas is limited and relies heavily on sweeping generalisations and informal assertions, such as claiming that most boys attend co-educational institutions 'only for girls and fun not for study'. While the student presents reasons for their viewpoint, such as societal pressures and the impact on families, these ideas lack sufficient elaboration and relevant, well-supported examples. The format also resembles a spoken speech introduction rather than a formal academic essay, as seen in the opening line 'Today i would like to talk about...'. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, aligning with a Band 5 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks clear logical organisation and proper paragraphing. Many paragraphs consist of single, run-on sentences or disconnected ideas, such as 'Some people says co-education is not wrong thing and some people say co-education is wrong thing.' Cohesive devices are either missing, repetitive, or inaccurate, making it difficult for the reader to follow a smooth progression of thought. For instance, transitional phrases between paragraphs are absent, resulting in a disjointed structure where ideas feel randomly stacked rather than logically connected. There are also frequent issues with referencing pronouns, making the logical relationships between sentences obscure. These weaknesses place the response firmly in Band 4.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily restricted, reflecting a narrow lexical range. Phrases like 'bad education system', 'do wrong things', and 'waste of their parents money' demonstrate limited precision and awkward collocations. There are frequent lexical inadequacies and word choice errors, such as using 'bunks' as a verb or 'goes hotels' without prepositions. While the student attempts to discuss social issues, the lack of appropriate academic vocabulary and the reliance on overly conversational phrasing prevent the response from achieving a higher score. Vocabulary control is basic and strains the reader at times, consistent with a Band 4 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on simple sentence structures and repetitive clauses joined by coordinating conjunctions like 'and'. There are persistent, fundamental errors in grammar, punctuation, and tense agreement throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement errors ('most of the boys goes', 'some people says'), capitalization errors ('i'), missing articles ('in a big cities'), and incorrect prepositions ('goes hotels'). Complex sentence attempts are frequently faulty and obscure meaning, such as in the sentence starting with 'That’s why who say...'. Because errors are frequent and systematically impede readability, the response meets the criteria for Band 4.
