Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, we live in a society where education is much needed for every child irrespective of gender. To facilitate this need many educational institutes are a part of our socities. Some schools offering co-education and some are in progess as single-sex schools. Different people have different point of view, some are in favour of co-education and some are of a belief that single-sex schools benefit students a lot. I agree with both overviews of people to much extent. The main point to understand this conflict or point of view is the understand the thinking behind that. People who are of thinking that girls and boys benefit from being educated separately in single-sex schools consider that co-education distracts the students in many ways. They fell pray of some other activities like opposite gender attraction and waste their time. Due to opposite gender attraction, many of the students also did not pay attention to their studies and could not perform well in exams. In different societies, like in Pakistan there are also many religious sanctions for un-married boys and girls. People are also afraid that rape cases are also increasing day by day in Pakistan, India and some other developing countries are also a reason behind this thinking. In my perspective, these people are right in many ways, but co-education also provides the opportunity to students to grow up together having a tough competition and a sense of confidence of working as a team. Co-education polishes the student and teaches them how to deal the opposite gender with respect and promotes the gender equality.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the debate regarding co-educational versus single-sex schools, ultimately attempting to present a balanced view. However, the student's position is somewhat contradictory or unclear, stating "I agree with both overviews of people to much extent" rather than taking a definitive stance on the extent of agreement. Ideas such as distractions and cultural/religious factors in countries like Pakistan are introduced, but they remain somewhat under-developed and general. The response covers the main requirements of the task and extends ideas into the counter-perspective on co-education, but the lack of a clear, sustained position and limited depth prevent it from reaching a higher band. Overall, it aligns best with the Band 6 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay suffers significantly from a lack of proper paragraphing. The entire body of the response is presented as a single, massive block of text, which severely hampers the visual and logical progression of ideas. While there are some basic cohesive devices used (such as "Some schools offering...", "Different people have different point of view...", and "In my perspective"), referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical flow makes it difficult for the reader to follow the transitions between arguments. The overall arrangement lacks clear paragraph structures to separate the introduction, the arguments for single-sex schools, and the counter-arguments for co-education. This falls squarely under the Band 5 criteria for inadequate and clumped structural organisation.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like "irrespective of gender," "educational institutes," "religious sanctions," and "gender equality." However, there are notable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as "socities" (spelling error), "point of view" instead of "points of view," "overviews of people," "they fell pray" (incorrect collocation for 'fall prey'), and "how to deal the opposite gender" (missing preposition 'with'). While the student attempts less common vocabulary, inaccuracies in word choice and collocation prevent the score from reaching a Band 7. The lexical range is minimally sufficient to convey meaning, fitting a Band 6 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ability to construct multi-clause sentences (e.g., "Nowadays, we live in a society where education is much needed for every child..."). However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ("Some schools offering co-education and some are in progess..."), missing articles, and awkward syntactic structures (e.g., "the understand the thinking behind that" and "many of the students also did not pay attention... and could not perform"). Punctuation is also weak due to the lack of paragraph breaks and run-on tendencies. These errors occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader, but they do not completely impede communication, placing the response at a Band 5.5.
