Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is frequently debated that girls and boys are educated together in co-education or mixed school some people might think that girls and boys benefits from being educated separately in single sex school. This has become a widespread phenomenal while this development brings a certain drawback. I firmly believe that merits outweigh its down sides.

The reason for why people believe that boys and girl are not should be together in school the reasons in mixed schools boys and girls learn to communicate, cooperate and respect one another from early age. these skills are particularly important because people generally work and interact with both men and women in their profession and in personal life.m Further more, studying together can help students develop greater confidence when communication with the opposite sex and reduce stereotypes about gender roles.

One major advantage of single-sex school is that students may experience fewer distraction in the class room. They can potentially concentrate more on their studies without worrying about social relationships with the opposite sex. In addition, teachers may be able to use teaching methods that suits the learning needs of a particular group. For example, some schools may design activities specifically to encourage girls to participate in traditionally male-dominated subjects such as science and technology.

In conclusion, I firmly reiterate my agreement because I think single-sex schools may offer a more focused learning environment in some circumstances, I believe that social and interpersonal benefits of coeducation are more significant. Therefore, I do not agree that separating boys and girls is generally more beneficial for their education.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the issue and clearly states a position. The writer discusses the advantages of single-sex education while firmly concluding that the social benefits of co-education outweigh them. However, some ideas are slightly confused in the introduction, where the student mixes the opposing arguments and their own view. Despite this minor confusion, all parts of the prompt are addressed, and the arguments are supported with relevant explanations regarding communication, confidence, and concentration in the classroom, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing separate arguments, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'In addition', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and transitions are at times awkward or repetitive, particularly in the opening sentences ('It is frequently debated that...'). Paragraph progression is generally clear, but mechanical cohesive patterns and occasional disjointed phrasing place this performance squarely in Band 6.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts at less common lexical items such as 'widespread', 'co-education', 'stereotypes', and 'male-dominated'. However, there are notable word choice and phrasing issues, such as 'benefits from being educated' instead of 'benefit', and 'phenomenal' used instead of 'phenomenon'. While communication is not impeded, these frequent inaccuracies and limited control over less common vocabulary prevent the writing from achieving a Band 7.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety. However, there are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('girls and boys benefits'), run-on and tangled structures ('The reason for why people believe that boys and girl are not should be together'), and punctuation errors. Although these errors do not completely obscure the intended meaning, their frequency restricts the response to a Band 5.0.
