Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response presents a clear position regarding the topic, stating strong disagreement with single-sex education. However, the candidate fails to meet the minimum word count of 250 words, coming in at only 209 words. Because of this under-length penalty, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and restricted. The main body paragraphs introduce relevant points such as confidence building and reducing stress, but the supporting examples—such as extreme claims regarding suicide—are overgeneralized, poorly substantiated, and contain severe factual or logical leaps. This aligns best with Band 5, where the task is addressed only partially and ideas remain under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, though the third body paragraph is cut off abruptly at the end. There is an attempt to use basic cohesive markers such as 'To begin with', 'To explain it', and 'For example'. However, referencing and logical progression are frequently faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'Shifting towards another benifits is by studing with boys girls reduces their fear' is awkward and poorly linked. Paragraphing structure is also compromised by the unfinished concluding sentence. Overall, the organization shows some logical sequencing but suffers from mechanical cohesion and inadequate overall progression, fitting the Band 5 descriptor.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, featuring frequent spelling and word-choice errors. Examples include 'educating' instead of 'educated', 'dis-agree', 'togather', 'intracting', 'benifits', 'studing', 'afses', and 'enrollou'. There are attempts at less common vocabulary such as 'institution' and 'confidence', but the high frequency of lexical and spelling errors impedes smooth communication at times. The range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, which corresponds to a Band 5 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences frequently result in grammatical errors. Examples of inaccurate structures include 'both gender are educating together', 'when both gender get study togather', and 'if individuals want to see our girls to successful'. Frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions are evident throughout the text and cause occasional difficulty for the reader. This performance reflects the characteristics of Band 5, where frequent errors persist and complex structures are often faulty.
