Student answer (Band 5.5)

Co-educational system is adopted in many countries in the world. it is vital for grooming and building the personality of the students. However, many people review that males and females were benefited by having single gender schools to study.

I strongly agree that single gender education system is more beneficial for the students. Firstly, students get relaxed in the class as same gender is studying with them so their interest of studying significantly rise. Furthermore, not only have positive impact on their studies but also on their grooming as in the class the environment become more comfortable for students due to having same gender by which they were able to learn their gender related thing such as boys will learn about their gender thing and girls will learned about their gender. This system will helped to keep the privacy of the students as they will know things related to them.

Secondly, in the single-sex schools students have more focus on their studies as the culture is same due to same gender which makes students feel prominent in the class. In addition to this, many countries in the world especially asians didnot allow their daughters to have studies in the mixed education system by which many girls were unable to get studies whereas having single-sex allow girls to have higher studies by which the litracy rate of the country rise.

In conclusion, i reiterate that the merits of single-sex schools far outweigh those of co-educational schools. Because it improves acadamic performance of the students and provide them comfortable education environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear and consistent position in favor of single-sex education. The writer attempts to support this stance with reasons such as increased comfort and focus in the classroom, as well as cultural factors regarding higher education for girls. However, the ideas are somewhat under-developed and repetitive, particularly in the first body paragraph where the point about gender-related learning lacks clear explanation. While all parts of the task are addressed, the arguments remain somewhat superficial and rely on broad generalizations. This aligns closely with the Band 6 descriptor, which states that the writer addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some parts are under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a recognizable structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' are utilized to guide the reader through the text, although some cohesive links are used mechanically or awkwardly, such as 'not only have positive impact on their studies'. Referencing is generally clear, but occasional clunky transitions prevent the response from achieving a higher score. This represents a solid Band 6 performance where the overall progression is clear despite some mechanical cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, incorporating terms such as 'co-educational system', 'grooming', 'privacy', and 'literacy rate'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'review that males and females were benefited' instead of 'argue that', 'same gender' instead of 'the same gender', and 'acadamic' (spelling error). The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the writer's basic points, but frequent minor errors and a lack of sophisticated uncommon lexical items restrict the score to a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though complex structures often contain errors. Examples of grammatical inaccuracies include 'Co-educational system is adopted' (missing article), 'males and females were benefited by having' (incorrect passive structure), 'students get relaxed in the class as same gender is studying with them so their interest significantly rise' (run-on sentence and subject-verb agreement error), and 'asians didnot allow' (capitalization and spelling). While communication is not severely impeded and the meaning remains understandable, the high frequency of grammatical and punctuation errors prevents the essay from reaching Band 6.
