Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people believe that girls and boys should educated in same schools in many parts of the world, while others argue that it is beneficial for girls and boys being educated from single-sex schools. I agree with boys and girls should educated from mixed schools because gender equality is a important thing in today's society.

Firstly, they can solve their problems with each other because they can discuss their problems with each other in mixed school. If boy has doubt about his study, he can solve through discuss with girl. For example, a boy has doubt in math subject but his boy friends does not know how to solve this doubt. At that time, girls know about how to solve this problem so boy can ask girls for his problem. Therefore, their problems can easily solve by talk with each other.

Secondly, gender equality problems may reduce in society because both genders can know each other very well in the mixed schools. So, they can understand each other feelings and problems. For example, a school has both gender students. In this school, teacher teach children from giving activities like, whenever any problems create both genders require understand each other and try to solve problems in this activity. Therefore, gender equality problems can decrease in the society and people may more aware from genders equality problems.

In conclusion, some people believe that children should study in co- educational schools, while other argue that children should study in single-sex schools. I believe students should study in mixed schools because they can understand their problems with each other. Also, society can aware in gender equality.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the task and presents a clear position agreeing with co-educational schooling, supporting it with reasons related to problem-solving and gender equality. However, the ideas are somewhat repetitively developed and rely on simple examples rather than deep elaboration, leaning towards a Band 6.0 profile. The introduction clearly states the writer's view, and the conclusion reiterates it, but the overall development lacks the extension and nuance expected at Band 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is organized into four paragraphs, following a logical structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' are used to structure the text, though referencing and transitional phrases can occasionally feel mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately, ensuring an overall coherent arrangement that allows the reader to follow the argument without difficulty.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, though it is repetitive and lacks flexibility. The student makes several notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'should educated' instead of 'should be educated', and 'boy friends' instead of 'male friends'. Phrases like 'gender equality problems' are repeated frequently rather than varied. While communication is not impeded, the frequent errors and limited range place this response firmly in the Band 5.0 range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic active forms. There are frequent and systematic errors, particularly involving passive voice omission and verb agreement, such as 'girls and boys should educated in same schools', 'boy has doubt', and 'society can aware in gender equality'. Complex structures are attempted with high error frequencies that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
