Student answer (Band 6.5)
In many countries, girls and boys are educated together in co-educational or mixed schools. Some people believe that girls and boys benefit from being educated separately in single-sex schools. I partially agree with this view because single-sex schools allow teachers to explain certain topics in a detailed manner and prevent a child from misbehaving toward the opposite gender. However, mixed schools help children to learn how to do work in a team and help in developing interpersonal skills.
Firstly, single-sex schools allow tutors to explain several topics in a detailed manner. This is because teachers may feel uncomfortable to explain certain topics like a reproductive system in a mixed class. Thus, single-sex schools allow them to explain in an appropriate way. Secondly, this view prevents a student from misbehaving toward opposite gender. For example, if a boy cracks joke to a girl, she might feel being insulted due to opposite gender.
On the other hand, co-educational schools encourage children to collaborate in a team. This allows both the gender to work in a single team, which even help to build leadership skill, which may help them in the industry. Additionally, this method allows children to build interpersonal skills. This is because a child can learn how to behave, interact and complete the task with opposite gender. Therefore, mixed schools help in the overall development of students.
In conclusion, I partially agree that girls and boys benefit from being educated separately because this allows teachers to explain topics in a detailed manner and prevents students from misbehaving toward opposite gender. However, co-educational schools encourage students to collaborate in a team and help in developing interpersonal skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on co-educational versus single-sex schooling. You successfully outline arguments for both sides, such as teachers feeling more comfortable discussing sensitive topics in single-sex environments and mixed schools fostering interpersonal skills. However, some of your ideas remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the example about a boy cracking a joke and a girl feeling insulted is quite brief and could be elaborated further to strengthen your argument. To reach a higher level, you need to ensure that every main point is supported by deeper explanations or more robust examples. The response meets all task requirements, showing a good balance of ideas that address the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You make effective use of introductory and concluding paragraphs, and your body paragraphs are distinctly separated into single-sex benefits and co-educational benefits. Cohesive devices are used appropriately to guide the reader, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'On the other hand'. While cohesion is generally clear, referencing could be slightly more precise in places, such as how pronouns connect back to previous nouns. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, creating an overall coherent arrangement that allows the reader to follow your line of argument without difficulty.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'interpersonal skills', 'co-educational', and 'overall development'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as writing 'explain certain topics like a reproductive system' instead of 'the reproductive system' and 'cracks joke' instead of 'cracks a joke'. These lexical errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a Band 6 level rather than a higher band. To improve your lexical resource, you should focus on precision in word choice, natural collocations, and mastering articles with specific academic terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
Your writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating your ability to construct compound and complex sentences like 'This is because teachers may feel uncomfortable to explain certain topics...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'teachers may feel uncomfortable to explain' instead of 'uncomfortable explaining', and missing plural forms or articles in phrases like 'opposite gender' where 'the opposite gender' is required. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and your overall sentence structure remains understandable. To achieve a higher band, you would need to increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over prepositions and articles.
